  • thin and light body, decent trackpad, good performances and fast SSD, runs fairly cool
  • poor screen, subpar battery life, pricey, can get quite noisy, the speakers can barely cover the noise made by the cooling fan, the MagicFlop system is more of a nuisance than an innovation, the keyboard is only average
  • With the Aspire S5, Acer has the slimmest 13.3 inch ultrabook on the market and also one of the fastest, but they fail to address some of the other important aspects of a proper ultrabook: the screen, the keyboard and the battery life....

  • Acer has created a very interesting Ultrabook with the Aspire S5, which they have clearly positioned above the existing Aspire S3. The retractable connectors are a fun gimmick, but the presence of a Thunderbolt connector is even more exciting. It's a sh...

  • If you're strapped for cash but need an Ultrabook, the S5 might not be your cup of tea. If you're not strapped for cash but need an Ultrabook, theres a small chance that you'd prefer the MacBook Air. Many ultrabooks suffer from a keyboard depth issue, and...

  • Slight difference in sizeAs I previously stated, the build quality is significantly better and is much lighter than its predecessor – 1.2kg vs 1.35kg. It is slightly larger too, if you look at this comparison here (ignore those 2 games, some of my favouri...

  • Abstract:  For a while now, ultraportables have been the only class of laptop that really matters. Sure, you can find more powerful machines for less money. But the mix of portability, speed, and beauty—along with the miniature muscle of Intel's Ivy Bridge chi...

  • Small, light, stylish, Excellent keyboard, Thunderbolt port, Ports on clever dropdown MagicFlip system
  • Expensive, Moderatequality display, Disappointing battery life, No Ethernet port, MagicFlip system is a potential point of failure
  • The Core i5-based Aspire S5 model reviewed here performs well, booting quickly and loading applications without undue delay. It's an exceptionally slim, light and stylish ultrabook, and the MagicFlip system is clever. However, it's also expensive and we'r...
