  • Potential for amazing picture quality, HDR was worth waiting a few extra years for (vs. 4K alone), Wide color gamut improves colors, Higher bitrate than streaming
  • Requires high-end TV, No HDMI auto-detection on many TVs, Many movies not in 4K end-to-end, Slow, old-school discs
  • To sum up our experience with UHD Blu-ray it ranges from spectacular to insignificant. DVDs still outsell Blu-rays in many regions - in a market that is in decline - and we think UHD Blu-ray will be even more niche. Why? Because you need a high-end TV to...

  • Speedy loading, Sharp pictures, Most affordable UHD Blu-ray player on the market,
  • Sound and picture need refinement, No display, Fiddly remote,
  • Overall, the Samsung UBD-K8500 is something of a disappointment. We have been very excited about 4K Blu-rays, but we don't feel that this player gets the most out of our discs. We can't imagine a scenario where we'd recommend it over the Panasonic DMP-UB90...

  • It's still early days, but if you're keen to rush into Ultra HD Blu-ray then Samsung's player is the way to go unless you need the Panasonic's 7.1-channel analogue audio outputs. The Samsung player is also a good way to add Ultra HD Netflix to your lounge...

  • Impressive 4K HDR image quality, 4K Netflix and Amazon onboard, Two HDMI outputs for AV receiver compatibility
  • Journeyman build quality and noisy, Not a great sounding music player, Coin battery remote control
  • Samsung's stripped back 4K Blu-ray player is just what your Ultra HD TV needs, but early adopters are expected to pay a high price for better pixels...

  • World's first UHD Blu-ray player, Outstanding overall performance, Reasonable price (for a “first”)
  • No auto picture adjustments for HDR, non-HDR, and 1080p discs with current UHDTVs, Small, frustrating remote
  • As the first Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the Samsung UBD-K8500 provides exceptional performance with the right display and disc. But as with any new format, there are growing pains to be sorted out before we can toast to its complete success...

  • Uitstekende beeldresultaten, Dubbele HDMI-aansluiting, Zeer goede upscaling, Prima mediaspeler, Handige interface, Goed smart tv aanbod

  • It's fast – pop a disc in the tray and by the time you've sat back on the sofa your film is ready to go. Same goes for the interface in general, which is speedy, Play a 4K disc in it and it's about as good as anything has ever looked on any telly, ever, U
  • Though it's not a failing of the player itself, there isn't a particularly wide selection of 4K discs available yet, and many of those that have been released are little more than touch-ups of existing lower-res sources, The disc tray is a bit clunky, fol
  • Well, with only two 4K Blu-ray players currently on sale, it's not exactly as though you're spoilt for choice, is it? I've only had a quick look at Panasonic's DMP-UB900, but anecdotally I've heard it's image quality may be just a tad richer than Samsung'...
