  • First-rate video quality and performance; geotagging videos is fun, if limited.
  • Annoying menu system; no wind filter; no manual shutter-speed, iris, or audio controls; relatively big and heavy; expensive.
  • Though their geotagging capabilities are mostly novelty and their interfaces could use a complete overhaul, the top-notch video quality, performance, and consumer-friendly feature sets of the Sony Handycam HDR-XR500V and HDR-XR520V make them worthy cam...

  • Good video quality, excellent stills mode, 240GB hard drive
  • Video quality slightly below Canon HF S10, depressingly unaffordable
  • The Sony HDR-XR520 is a rock-solid HDD video camera that improves on its predecessors in nearly every way. On the other hand, it’s unlikely that many consumers will be able to afford it at its current price point. ...

  • The world’s first street-smart camcorder automatically geo-tags your videos and photos, plotting them as tiny thumbnails on its built-in global maps. Every element of this Full HD camcorder is at the top of its game, starting with a brand new CMOS s...
  • There’s no bad on board this Sony, but it does occasionally stray from perfection. There’s no standard way to geo-tag videos yet, so you’ll need to manual locate movies uploaded to Flickr. And don’t rely on the built-in maps to sco...
  • Not only the best shooting Full-HD camcorder available for under a grand but the first of a new breed of smart, flexible, connected shooters that makes home movie making cool again. Best offers for the Sony HDR-XR520MyDigitaLand £981.99 Amazon UK...

  • Abstract:  Video Review: The new $1,300 HDR-XR520V Camcorder from Sony, which records hi-def 1920 x 1080 video, has 240 GB of space, includes built-in geotagging and has an LCD touch panel might be the perfect solution for capturing all of your precious memories....

  • Abstract:  Extra scharfEine Premiere in Sonys HDR-XR520 feiert der neue Exmor-CMOS-Sensor mit 6.631.000 Pixel. Insbesondere bei wenig Licht kann man vor seiner Leistung nur den Hut ziehen: Zwar gerieten die Lowlight-Testaufnahmen generell einen Tick zu dunkel, da...

  • The top models from Canon, Panasonic and Sony are all masterful products. Canon's LEGRIA HF S10 is currently too expensive, but the Panasonic HDC-HS300 and Sony HDR-X520 are similarly priced and much harder to distinguish. The Panasonic's full-sized acces...

  • Very detailed HD footage. Crisp and clear LCD screen. Excellent in low light
  • Not cheap. Autofocus wobbles. Not for Mac users, yet
  • Pricey and far from compact, but if you want HD footage to really drool over this is hard to beat ...

  • Abstract:  The Sony HDR-XR520V (MSRP $1499.99) is a camcorder that will please some, disappoint others, and make still others feel a little wary. Sure, most camcorders cant please every kind of user, but the XR520 is particularly divisive: its viewfinder and con...
