TestSeek's Expert Reviews Summary

The Urbanears Plattan are a medium segment over-the-ears pair of headphones directed to the design-aware people. They are available in many colors and feature a very sober yet attractive look. The Plattan headphones has an audio cable with a headset feature (a remote) which is compatible with most smartphones (like iPhones and HTC).

The design is considered to be attractive by more or less all the editors. The headband is cushioned with a textile material which feels good on the top of your head. However most reviewers don't like the overall comfort of these headphones. One common complaint is that the caps makes the ears sore after a while and another that the headphones are too tight which causes too much pressure against the head. The editors do however appreciate the feature of an extra 3.5mm audio output which friends can use to listen to what you are listening too (good for travels in cars and airplanes). Another good thing about the design is that the caps can be folded into the headband curve which makes them easy to store in a backback or even in a handbag.

The built is solid and the quality level feels high, especially for this price level (around $60). Nice features like the foldable design discussed above and the textile feel of the audio cable is appreciated in the reviews.

The audio quality is OK but nothing out of the ordinary according to all reviewers.

The editors liked

  • Sleek design
  • Good build quality
  • OK price

The editors didn't like

  • Not very comfortable
  • So-so audio quality

TestSeek's Conclusion

Overall these headphones looks great and has a good solid built which feels like good quality, especially for the lower price level. The audio quality is OK but not much more and the headphones are just not comfortable enough for long time use according to most editors.

  • Awesome noise blocking, great audio quality
  • Some range lost playing certain tracks
  • Looking good wearing headphones nowadays seems as important as the music sounding good for a large segment of fashion-conscious buyers. Urbanears Plattan and Plattan Plus certainly catch your eyes with bright and luscious colors. The headphones have a...

  • Abstract:  Urbanears products are almost ridiculously minimalistic in their design, but they come across as extremely hip. Anyone who appreciates how the plain white Apple earplugs stand out in public knows exactly what I mean. The Urbanears product I'll be reviewing...

  • Stylish design and handy size make it great for travel,
  • Muffled sound and mushy bass brings down audio quality.
  • Use these if you're into hip-hop or sound quality takes a back seat over style and travel-friendliness....

  • Abstract:  Not long ago I wrote a blog about a recent discovery of mine: the Urbanears Plattan headset/on-ear headphones, priced at $59.99. In my blog, I said the Plattans reminded of the first set of really good headphones I ever owned—the classic Sennheiser H...

  • As advertised, they do provide excellent audio seclusion. With the ear cups on, it was impossible to hear anything but a slight background noise from any of the following: traffic noises, television at normal volume, or a dishwasher. In the Plattans&rsq...
  • Bass. Yes, the cello reproduction is listed above as a pro, but in all other regards, the bass is a con. Pop and dance music with electronic bass lines was often muddy and unclear. Songs like “Starstruck” by Lady Gaga and “Teardrop&rdq...

  • good sounding in line microphone, colors a plenty, braided cord, texture of headphones, stylish,
  • smaller earphone better on smaller ears (round not oval like your ear), not for audio enthusiasts.
  • Overall sound quality was typical of the $60 price tag; these headphone were designed for multi-function not high performance audio and as such they did a great all around job. Recommendations for these would be that at $60.00 there is a lot of competi...

  • Affordable; come in a vast array of colour options; compact and stylish; will work with music phones, thanks to an integrated mic and call-answer button
  • Not terribly comfortable; overall audio quality is muddy
  • The Urbanears Plattan headphones are all about style, rather than producing great sound. Beware of their mushy bass, nasal mids and absence of clarity ...
