TestSeek's Expert Reviews Summary

AMD 6970 has come to the world to figh the NVIDIA GTX 570 and it succeeds quite well in this task. However the new AMD 6970 graphics card doesn't quite reach up to the absolute top performers. This may however change with new drivers coming out in the future. What the editors like is the relative low power consumption and the lower-than-usual noise levels (except for when in high load). Another positive feature is the possibility to connect multiple cards (more than two) via CrossFire. That one can easily revert to the standard frequencies is also good so that potential problems with overclocked cards can be easiliy fixed.

The editors liked

  • 2GB Memory
  • Cooling features
  • Strong performance/watt

The editors didn't like

  • Noisy at higher performance levels
  • Overclocking doesn't mean real world benefits
  • Expensive

TestSeek's Conclusion

The AMD HD 6970 card brings many new cool things to the table; mainly its power tuning technology. The performance is very high although not yet as good as the top performing graphics cards but this may be due to the early drivers which was used in the tests.

Moc..

  • Improved DX11 performance, runs silent, DP 1.2 and HDMI 1.4a support, Dual-BIOS
  • Power hungry especially with PowerTune set to higher values, high overclock does not translate to significant real world improvement, pricing is a bit high (based on US pricing as India pricing is not fixed yet)
  • We haven't got the final India pricing yet as AMD is still finalizing that, but according to US pricing, the card is retailing for around $380, which is roughly $40 more than the GTX 570. My guess is AMD will certainly not price it below 20K in India, ...

  • PowerTune changes don't have much affect when applied, Low overclocking

  • Abstract:  When AMD announced the Radeon HD 6800 series with video cards based on the Barts GPU back in October it was well received by consumers, but the enthusiasts and gamers that wanted more horse power sat on the sidelines. They were waiting for AMD to re...

  • Although AMD's Radeon HD 6950 and Radeon HD 6970 are not absolutely superior to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 in sheer speed and cannot match the GeForce GTX 580, except for specific games and benchmarks, these new graphics cards are quite appealing offe...

  • Abstract:  As NVIDIA released their refreshed GTX 500-series AMD took what could only be called an observer’s position, biding their time until their own response was ready. Today we find out exactly what they have been working on since before the HD 5800 cards ...

  • A bit faster than Nvidia's closest card on bench tests, newer games, Better multi-screen support than competing Nvidia cards
  • Lags behind GeForce GTX 570 in older games and tests, Loud fan under full load, Too long for some PC cases
  • The HD 6970 is eclipsed by Nvidia’s high-end GTX 580 in raw performance, but at about $370 at launch, it's a better bet for cutting-edge games than Nvidia’s similarly priced GeForce GTX 570. ...
