  • 10.2 megapixels; in-camera image stabilization; eye-start autofocus.
  • ISO tops out at ISO 1,600; auto white balance is warm with tungsten light.
  • Sonys Alpha DSLR-A100 deserves consideration whether youre looking for an alternative to Canon and Nikon, you already own a selection of Maxxum AF lenses, or youre looking for your first digital SLR.

  • Overall handling; effective D-Range Optimizer; CCD-shift image stabilization system; anti-dust properties; Eye-Start AF; automatic LCD orientation; 3fps continuous shooting in JPEG format.
  • No external status display; stiff controls; volume of mirror flip a tad loud; relatively flat directional control pad.
  • The entry-level Alpha 100 is designed for enthusiasts who want to jump onto the digital SLR bandwagon for the first time without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Unique and effective built-in anti-shake system, High resolution 10 Megapixel sensor, 18-70mm kit lens longer than the usual 55mm, Screen information stays upright as body rotated
  • Anti-dust system far from infallible, Relatively noisy at 800 ISO and above, Kit lens soft in corners when open at wide angle, Cant see effect of anti-shake while composing, Feels like an enhancement, not a new DSLR
  • Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 verdict Theres no denying Sonys Alpha DSLR-A100 is an impressive camera for the money. Simply having 10.2 Megapixel resolution and built-in anti-camera-shake is enough to elevate it beyond most budget digital SLRs. Throw in a hi...

  • 10MP CCD Built-in image stabilization Fast response
  • Not a production model Final marks on hold
  • Sony has gone “all in” in the D-SLR poker game, quickly leaping into the ranks of the better Canon and Nikon models. Keep it in mind if you’re looking to spend $1,000 for a new camera. Remember this was a pre-production model and we&rsqu...

  • Abstract:  The announcement at the start of this year that Konica Minolta was pulling out of the camera business altogether came as a huge shock to most people in the camera industry and photographic press. Minolta has a pedigree dating back to 1873 and was one of t...

  • Excellent resolution, plenty of detail although no leap over eight megapixels, Vibrant color response, similar hues to other digital SLRs, About a third of a stop more sensitive than indicated, Neutral tone response with soft roll-off in highlights, In-bo...
  • High sensitivity noise at ISO 800 and 1600, Occasional Multi-segment metering under-exposure, Long exposure noise reduction artifacts (black pitting, softness, posterization), Limited image parameter adjustment (only -2 to +2), LCD anti-reflective coating...
  • Sonys entrance to the digital SLR market comes thanks to their finial association with and later purchase of Konica Minoltas photo division. When you first use the A100 it clearly has more Konica Minolta DNA than Sony however their influence comes i...
